Partnership with the Charles University

Since its inception in 2002, PSSI has been closely collaborating with prestigious Charles University in Prague. In 2006, PSSI started to support and work on the creation of the new Master’s Degree in Security Studies, the first master degree program of this kind in the Czech Republic. PSSI participated also in pursuing the English language accreditation of the Master’s Degree program - Master in International Security Studies which was established in 2012.

PSSI has continued to coordinate closely with Charles University by organizing lectures of visiting speakers and workshops. In this connection the James Q. Whitaker Security Lectures were established at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University in 2008. The primary aim of these lectures is to bring distinguished guest lecturers from the global security and foreign policy communities and academia to share their analyses, expertise and first-hand experiences. Among the lecturers and topics have been: Professor Robert Jervis from the Columbia University – “Perception and Misperception in International Politics” and “US Foreign and Security Politics: Bush and Obama Compared”, Professor Otto Pick, former Deputy Czech Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Director of the Institute of International Relations – “Geostrategic Importance of Central Europe”, Carol Dumaine, Director of Energy and Environmental Security at the US Department of Energy, and David Robson, Head of Energy and Environmental Foresight of the Scottish Government – “National and Global Security in a Volatile World: Shared Risks, Uncommon Challenges, New Opportunities” or Professor Richard Shultz from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University – “Armed Groups and Irregular Warfare: A Major 21st Century Security Challenge”.
