After an in-depth investigation, the Prague Security Studies Institute has found that Swedish financial institutions have invested over $70 million into corporate bad actors, including $14 million into directly sanctioned companies. This includes companies linked to the Chinese military, forced labor abusers, and threats to U.S. national security.

The Prague Security Studies Institute (PSSI) is proud to be part of a new Horizon Europe project titled Tackling Conspiracy Theories by Fostering Resilience and Political Self-Efficacy in Democracies (TaCT-FoRSED). This international initiative, funded by the European Union and implemented by a consortium led by the University of Passau, brings together research and educational institutions across Europe to address the growing challenge of conspiracy theories and their impact on democratic societies.

PSSI’s latest Perspective examines the growing risks posed by CATL, a leading Chinese lithium-ion battery manufacturer, due to its ties to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), and China’s Military-Civil Fusion (MCF) strategy. In January 2025, the U.S. Department of Defense designated CATL as a “Chinese Military Company Operating in the United States,” raising serious national security concerns. Nevertheless, CATL is still enjoying substantial Western investment as a publicly traded company, and is further seeking a secondary listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange underwritten by U.S. financial institutions.

A: The NATO Summer School is a prestigious one-week intensive course designed for university students and young professionals interested in advancing their understanding of national security, of the threat environment for NATO member states and the policy options available. It features lectures from Czech and foreign security experts and a week-long international crisis simulation.

Flash Traffic Report: January 2025 Additions to the The Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act Entity List

Given the recent addition of 37 new entities on the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA) Entity List, including some publicly traded companies with substantial Western investment, PSSI has issued a Flash Traffic Report recommending capital markets sanctions on five companies.
