European - Indo-Pacific Partnership in Space Security: Economic and Financial Dimensions

Prague Security Studies Institute organized a public panel discussion concerning space partnership dynamic in the Indo-Pacific region and challenges for Europe stemming from economic & financial statecraft of Russia and China in the region (often involving lop-sided, non-market contractual and financing terms, disadvantaging the recipient country). It discussed where is Europe’s competitive advantage and offer some recommendations concerning how Europe and its regional partners (notably India, Japan and the U.S.) might collaborate more effectively among themselves to build a transparent and sustainable regional and global space economy.
Our three distinguished speakers included:
- Yuka KOSHINO, Research Fellow at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS)
- Rajeswari RAJAGOPALAN, Director of the Center for Security, Strategy and Technology (CSST) at the Observer Research Foundation
- Jolanda VAN EIJNDTHOVEN, Head of Unit, International Affairs and Communication, Directorate General for Defense Industry and Space at European Commission
The panel discussion was moderated by Dr. Jana SEHNÁLKOVÁ, lecturer at the Department of North American Studies at Charles University.
The public panel was also preceded by a closed roundtable that consisted of two sessions. In the first session entitled the Economic and Financial Competition for Space Partnerships in the Indo-Pacific Dr. Yuka Kobayashi, Dr. Namrata Goswami, and Dr. Kazuto Suzuki presented their remarks and the following debate was moderated by Dr. Martin Hála.
The second session called Search for an Effective European Indo-Pacific Space Strategy was moderated by Dr. Jan Hornát, while Dr. Takeshi Hosoda, Dr. Kai-Uwe Schrogl, and Dr. Klára Jurčová presented their expert views on the topic.
