The Link Between Space and Security: The Role and the Experience of the EU Agency for the Space Programme (EUSPA)

Mr. Stefano Iannitti, Head of the Security Department at European Union Agency for the Space Programme (EUSPA), delivered an online guest lecture entitled “The Link Between Space and Security: The Role and the Experience of the EU Agency for the Space Programme” on December 6, 2021. 

The lecture developed on the link between space and security and described the role of EUSPA in the context of the EU Space Programme and the relevant experiences and initiatives.

Stefano Iannitti is a Head of the Security Department at EUSPA (European Union Agency for the Space Programme) since October 2015. Mr. Iannitti has been an active contributor to the development of security in the European Union Global Navigation Satellite Systems since 2003 and is contributing to the development of the security aspects of the EU Space Programme, GOVSATCOM for instance. Prior to his current role, Mr Iannitti was the GNSS Security and Standards Manager at the GSA between 2014 and 2015, in charge of the management of the security requirements of both the Galileo and EGNOS programmes. Previously, he worked at the Agenzia Spaziale Italiana where he had been appointed as Head of Galileo PRS Unit. From 2007 to 2011, he worked at the GSA as Security Accreditation Officer for the establishment of the Galileo security accreditation process and of the Security Accreditation Board for European GNSS systems. Mr Iannitti holds a Master degree in IT and Network Security, a PhD in Systems Engineering and a Degree in Computer Engineering from “La Sapienza” University of Rome.
